Calling on the name of the Lord

Calling on the Name of the Lord

There are moments in life when we feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or lost. During these times, we often search for a source of hope and assurance that can steady our hearts. The promise of salvation is one such anchor—a reminder that no matter our background or mistakes, we have access to God’s grace. Calling on the name of the Lord opens the door to this grace and invites us into a relationship filled with peace and redemption.

This simple yet powerful act is not limited by culture, race, or status. It is a universal invitation extended to all who believe. When we call on the Lord, we are not just uttering words; we are expressing faith in His ability to save and sustain us. This devotional invites us to explore the profound truth found in Romans 10:11-13 and to embrace the saving grace that is readily available to each of us.

Today’s Saving Grace of God

Romans 10:11-13 (NIV)
“As Scripture says, ‘Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”

Reflection

I can remember a time when my life was a mess. I couldn’t seem to get my act together, and every decision I made just pushed me further from God instead of drawing me to Him. I knew that I needed salvation, and I felt constant pressure tugging me in that direction, but I couldn’t believe that God would accept me, especially considering the chaos of my life and the massive amount of mistakes that made up my broken past. It took me a long time to realize that the constant pressure I had been feeling was God calling me. He pursued me. Me! The broken girl with really poor decision-making skills. That’s when I realized that when Jesus says everyone, He means EVERYONE!!

These verses show us that salvation is neither exclusive nor conditional on who we are or where we come from. It is a gift freely given by God to anyone who believes and calls on His name. This truth invites us to lay down any barriers or doubts that might keep us from fully trusting in God’s promise. When we call on the Lord, we acknowledge our need for Him and open ourselves to His rich blessings.

In reflecting on this passage, we might consider the simplicity and depth of this invitation. Salvation isn’t about perfection or earning favor—it’s about faith and calling out to the Lord with a sincere heart. This is both comforting and empowering because it means that no matter our past or present struggles, God’s grace is accessible to us right now.

Short Prayer

Lord, we come before You with humble hearts, trusting in Your promise that all who call on Your name will be saved. Help us to believe without hesitation and to experience the fullness of Your grace. Thank You for being our refuge and strength. Amen.
